The Spectralis is the first groove-oriented Instrument, which combines the LIVE usability of the latest digital technology with the best elements of proven analog technology. Radikal Technologies also have thrown in some other cool features which give the synthesizer much more flexibility than anything seen before. While traditional Sequencers are limited to playing back rhythm patterns and tone sequences, the step Sequencer of the SPECTRALIS makes possible highly complex sound creations which opens up completely new worlds of sound when used in connection with the programmable FIXED FILTER BANK. In addition to its outstanding analog sound possibilities the SPECTRALIS also provides DSP based sound creation, which takes care of all the ancillary needs for drumsounds and polyphonic voices. Hybrid Synth - Oscillator Section
4 free running oscillators with continuously variable wave shape, time linearity modulation, audio range frequency modulation, oscillator synchronisation, ring modulation, bitreduction and indepent pitch and volume envelopes. Alternativly the oscillators can be started with a predetermined startphase. The glide effect is adjustable for each of the 4 oscillators separately. Each Oscillator can be routed thru the various filter sections with individual level control.
Hybrid Synth - Analog Filter Section
2 analog filters - 24dB resonating lowpass with self oscillation - 12dB resonating multimode filter with lowpass, highpass, bandpass and notch outputs and self oscillation. Both filters can be audio range frequency modulated by the oscillator section.The filters can be operated in parallel or serial mode. Of course they each have their independent envelopes for frequency and level control.
Fixed Filterbank
The fixed filterbank consists of 8 bandpass filters, one highpass and one lowpass filter.The roll off slope of the bandpass filters can be set from 6dB/octave to max. 40dB/octave by adding filterstages and resonance. The adjustable spacing of the individual filter stages and the q factor adjustment allow for an almost infinite number of completely different filter characteristics.
Step Sequencer Section
32 independent parameter control lines with up to 96 steps. Each line has seperate settings for direction, length and resolution. Single steps in each line can be muted, skipped or set up with an adjustable glide. Additional Control Envelopes can be triggered at selected Steps (Attack, decay, square, and soft curved envelopes with beat oriented duration control and individual depth control for each step). Sequencer lines can be assigned to external MIDI instruments as well.
Pattern Sequencer
A powerful pattern oriented sequencer system with realtime, overdub and step by step recording as well as Grid based drum programming. Internal song memory stores up to 16 songs and 256 patterns.
Sampling Section
A 48 Voice polyphonic Sound Engine with powerful subtractive synthesis capabilities, real multisampling, velocity switching and resampling functionality. AIFF- / WAV-Files and Soundfont 2 Multisample Instruments are supported by an included sample conversion tool.
Smart Media Card Interface and USB 2.0 Port
The USB2 highspeed port allows fast and easy file transfer of samples, sounds, patterns and songs between the Spectralis and a connected Windows PC or Apple Macintosh computer. Your live setups, consisting of samples, sound settings and sequencer data, can be stored comfortable on SmartMedia cards.
Connections
The Spectralis has 8 Audio Outputs (Sum-L, Sum-R, Direct 1-4, Hybrid Synth Direct Out L+R) plus 2 audio inputs for feeding external signal into the analog filters and/or the filterbank. External signals can be sampled from these inputs as well. Additionally the Spectralis comes with the standart MIDI ports (in, out, thru) and a USB 2.0 port. Last but not least there is a headphones output, powered by a gutsy headphoned amp.

AUDIO DEMOS
Spectralis DSP Engine Demos : The Hybrid synth engine together with the sample based engine combined with the advanced sequencer functiontionality is the perfect instrument for your studio and live work. All what you listen to is just the spectralis recorded via the two Main-Outputs of the spectralis.
Oscillator demos : The Oscillators are the heart of any sound-creation. The Spectralis Oscillator Section provides 4 digital oscillators with continous wave selection, Oscillator-Sync, Ring-Modulation, Frequency-Modulation, Phase-Modulation, Bit-Reduction per Oscillator, Tune-Scaling, independent Glide for each Oscillator, Pulsewidth-Modulation, linear detune, 2 independent envelope-curves for each Oscillator for volume adjustment and pitchcontrol-effects.
Filterbank demos : The FIXED FILTERBANK was the core idea behind the whole Spectralis/Spectron concept. After designing and testing a multitude of various analog versions of the idea, Radikal decided in the end that a digital implementation provided considerably better results. According to their motto – if it can be improved, let’s improve it – you can now benefit from the most powerful filterbank available today – at least in our humble opinion. The range of the bands now goes up to 40dB, the quality, the spreading of the cascaded band-passes and the frequencies of the individual bands can all be edited.
Filters : Explore the full sound potential of the spectralis analog filter section. The 24 dB Lowpass-Filter and the 12 dB Multimode filter both are self resonating filters and the exact tracking allows to use the filters as additional sound-sources as well.
