Now that summer is finally upon us - the festival season is in full swing and hordes of hedonists are decamping to ibiza’s pleasurable isle for the next few months - the time has surely come for one unifying dance tune to soundtrack our long, hot summer days and even longer, and hopefully hotter, nights. if one man can step up and achieve such a feat it’s surely vito lucente, perhaps slightly better known to the dance nation as junior jack. to say he has some form in this area would be a gross understatement akin to describing the sistine chapel as a pretty good drawing. so it should come as no surprise that junior jack is about to unveil not one, but two summer smashes for our sunshine-soaked delectation. indeed the twin delights of rocktron and life are so complimentary you could dress ‘em up in matching clothing and call them siblings. rocktron is the more upfront of the pair: starting off like some futuristic, alien, sci-fi bombing raid it builds into this mammoth glitterball explosion that only the most foolhardy could resist. its cavalcade of sound involves enough bass to uncurl sly stone’s afro; a drum break that suggests some impending apocalypse and a sky scraping guitar riff that sounds half-inched from the axe god joe satriani by contrast, life is more of a sly concern. beginning with a heart-stopping beat, it’s lush, swirling bass and crisp synths twisted into something euphoric, crazy, sexy and cool. this is infectious dance music that stretches from its underground roots to speak to everyone. rocktron and life are stunning declarations of the dancefloor’s continuing potency and are testament to junior jack’s unique talent at crafting dancefloor slayers that work as well in some sweaty nightclub as they do on a picturesque beach or muddy field. it’s summertime, folks. time to remember the vitals: shades? check. sun cream? check. the latest incendiary release from junior jack? you betcha.
