Phonoshuffle steps to the plate with a hot new flavor coming from nyc’s troydon on this ep entitled “shades of green”. there is some red hot talent assembled on this record and the featured remixes come from tanner ross (dirtybird, freerange) and santiago & bushido (pottymouth, om).
in the a1 slot we have the original mix of “flowers” which comes courtesy of phonoshuffle label owner troydon. he combines chunky beats with a massiv sounding synth bassline and then drops into some super glitchy breakdowns to work the floor. troydon really crosses over on this one, once again showing his versatility in the studio with nice little vocal sprinkles and some dope fx that tie it all together. then over to a2 we find another troydon cut, this one called “mad world” and a mad one it is indeed. somewhat reminiscent of solid groove’s “this is sick” or the “sick na good” edit that was done with dope fidgety synth lines and some craziness in the breaks as usual. the beats on this cut really stand out to me and are unbelievably tight and snappy! it absolutely kills on the floor and you will see what i mean when you play it out. definitely the stand out cut on the record for me personally. next on to the b1 slot and we find tanner ross’ remix of “flowers”. tanner is best known for his work on freerange as “marcel wave” as well as some goodies he has done for claude von stroke’s san francisco based label dirtybird. tanner takes his remix into deeper more minimal/tech territory and delivers a hotty, somewhat reminiscent of his outing on dirtybird with kilowatts. definitely going to appeal to the more minimal heads out there following the likes of style of eye, claude von stroke etc. then last but definitely not least we get to the b2 slot where we find a remix from santiago & bushido who are churning out some bombs after the huge success of there cut “head trick” which reached number 1 on beatport’s top downloads chart earlier this year! this mix is a driving late night monster with a huge break and slammin beats, new school chicago sound at its best. get it while its fresh and cause some serious damage to your dancefloor this summer!
