When sebastian tesch, adam kammerland and anders ekert formed pluxus back in 1998, the swedish electronic scene was almost entirely consisting of dull, uniform club music or introverted art music. influenced by devo, jean jaques perry and kraftwerk through aphex twin and matmos they set out to tell a very different tale by trading in their traditional ‘band’ instruments for vintage synths, computers and a sampler. thus pluxus began to emit a blend of cuddly instrumental electro-pop…boomkat aptly described their music as “kraftwerk meeting sesame street”… then in 2004 something happened. their teddy bear techno wasn’t doing it for them any longer. they were fed up – time to unplug and reset. so three years go by and preparation and practice turned the band towards away from their kiddish approach to a more varied and deeper style of creation. and that brings us to one of the most diverse and radical releases to emerge on kompakt to date - “solid state”. originally self-released in 2007 only in scandinavia, “solid state” caught the attention of co-owner / dj michael mayer who was immediately captured and impressed by their inventive ways of veering away from the systematic approach typically taken with techno music. it certainly proven to be very contagious with everyone here as well!. banjo’s strum over rollover breaks and beats with “transient”, the romantic french flair that permeates “perm”, that techno-fied ruckus that omits from “contax” and finally leading the album off with two early aphex inspired lullabies “solid state” and “slow peel”. it’s high time that pluxus get their fair dues and “solid state” should prove that to the world come release time. the „transient ep“ compiles the most dancefloor-friendly from „solid state“ for all you vinyl dj‘s left out there... we love you!
